Screenwriter James Gunn, Wonder Women director Patty Jenkins and Furious 7 filmmaker James Wan were among the film figures who extended their condolences to Zack Snyder after news of a family tragedy was made public Monday.
The Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice director, who was at the helm of the upcoming DC Comics film Justice League, announced that he and wife Deborah Snyder (a producer on the movie) will both be stepping away from the project to focus on their family after the sudden death of their 20-year-old daughter, who died by suicide in March.

“In my mind, I thought it was a cathartic thing to go back to work, to just bury myself and see if that was the way through it,” Snyder told The Hollywood Reporter on Monday. “The demands of this job are pretty intense. It is all-consuming. And in the last two months, I’ve come to the realization … I’ve decided to take a step back from the movie to be with my family, be with my kids, who really need me. They are all having a hard time. I’m having a hard time.”
Jenkins tweeted, “Our hearts are with the Snyder’s and have been,” while DC Films head Geoff Johns relayed his support to Snyder, “one of the kindest and most inspirational artists I’ve ever known.”
