She’s best known for playing the cantankerous cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester on Fox’s Glee, but Jane Lynch is hanging up the tracksuit for a little while to take on another larger-than-life villainess: Annie‘s Miss Hannigan.

Lynch told the Associated Press on Wednesday that she’ll replace Katie Finneran, a two-time Tony winner, as the slave-driving orphanage matron in the glowingly reviewed Broadway revival of the hit musical.
“I’m so thrilled, I can’t see straight,” Lynch, a former member of Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre Company, tells the AP. “It’s a preposterous fantasy come true.”
Lynch will step into the role for eight weeks only, joining the production ay New York’s Palace Theatre from May 16 through July 14.
In his review for The Hollywood Reporter, David Rooney called the revival “a winning presentation of an unapologetically sentimental show.”
The Annie renaissance continues with a planned screen adaptation from a group of producers that includes Jay-Z. The version would feature a mainly African-American cast, and will be directed by Easy A helmer Will Gluck.
