Fifty Shades of Grey, like its literary inspiration, failed to catch fire in Japan, bringing in $682,000 (?81 million) from 324 screens on Saturday and Sunday, putting it in fifth place on the weekend box office-charts in its debut.
Terrace House: Closing Door, the big-screen conclusion to Fuji TV’s Big Brother-like reality show, topped the weekend chart in Japan with revenue of $4.3 million (?511 million) from only 160 screens on its Valentine’s Day-weekend debut. The show, which finished its TV run in September, features Taylor Swift‘s “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” as its theme song for the theatrical release.
Big Hero 6 dropped to second place after topping the Japanese charts for six weekends in a row, with another $1.3 million (?157 million) on Saturday and Sunday, to take its total to $70.64 million (?8.38 billion) from more than 6.5 million admissions after nine weeks in theaters.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fell one spot to third after a solid $2.2 million (?260 million) bow last weekend.

Meanwhile, Mortdecai also dropped one notch to fourth place, performing relatively well in Japan, where Johnny Depp remains a solid draw.
The updated musical Annie also has outperformed in Japan relative to other markets. For the latest weekend it dropped one spot to fifth and looks set to finish its run with around $10 million.
