Joe Wright’s Pan opened in the second spot on the weekend box-office charts in Japan with $1.3 million from 120,000 admissions, making it look unlikely that Japan will be a savior of Warner Bros.’ underperforming origin story.

In better news for Warner Bros., The Intern continues to perform well in Japanese theaters, though not as well as in neighboring South Korea, dropping two spots to fifth. After four weekends, its total in Japan is now $9.9 million (?1.18 billion) from 906,500 tickets sold.
The Transporter Refueled fell from sixth to hit the number-eight spot in its second weekend and now has a local total of $2.2 million (?270 million).

Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials dropped to the ninth spot in the weekend rankings after bowing in fifth the previous Friday. It has now brought in $2.6 million (?309 million) at the Japanese box office, where the YA genre has found success.
Next weekend will see releases for Baltasar Kormakur’s Everest and George Clooney’s The Monuments Men.
