Local dark comedy Too Young to Die! (Wakakushite Shinu) took the No. 1 spot at the Japanese box office in its delayed bow with ?2.58 million ($2.5 million) on Saturday and Sunday from 188,000 admissions at 288 screens.

Too Young, the story of a high-school boy who dies in a bus accident and goes to hell before he has a chance to kiss his sweetheart, was directed and written by actor-helmer Kankuro Kudo. The film was originally scheduled for a February release, but was pushed back after a ski bus accident in January killed 15 when the vehicle left the road in mountainous Nagano Prefecture.
Zootopia added another $2 million to take its total in the country to $66.9 million from 5.57 million admissions. The Disney animation climbed one spot up the charts to No. 2 in its tenth weekend to continue its long, strong run in the top three.
Botanical Books (Shokubutsu Zukan: Unmei no Koi) dropped back down to No. 3 after its fourth weekend in theaters.
Sadako vs. Kayako, which brings together the two baddies of the Grudge (Ju-on) and Ring horror series, held onto the No. 4 spot, in which it bowed last weekend.
The second part of local police drama 64 (Rokuyon) fell three spots to No. 5 on its third weekend, while the first part of the double-header fell one slot to No. 10 in its eighth weekend.
Deadpool dropped one spot to No. 6, adding another $2 million to bring its Japan cume to $16.7 million, taking it past the performance of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Next weekend will see local releases for Alice Through the Looking Glass and Warcraft.
