TOKYO – Kiyoshi Kurosawa, director of Seventh Code, says he was “very surprised” to win the best director and technical contribution awards at the Rome Film Festival on Sunday.
ROME REVIEW: Seventh Code (Sebunsu kodo)
“I was satisfied just to have this film selected for Rome International Film Festival, so I was very surprised to hear it would get an award. Among so many superb productions, I’m honored it was chosen,” said Kurosawa.
Seventh Code was in the 18-film main competition section, along with compatriot Takashi Miike‘s The Mole Song.
Shot in Vladivostok, Russia, the thriller stars former pop idol Atsuko Maeda as a young woman who goes abroad in search of an ex-lover, played by Ryuhei Suzuki, and finds herself in the hands of local mobsters.
