Jason Collins didn’t beat around the bush when he decided to tell his twin brother, Jarron Collins, that he’s gay.
The duo made their late-night TV debut Wednesday on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live, where they recalled how Jason broke the news to his sibling.

Jason, who became the first openly gay professional athlete on a major American sports team when he came out in a Sports Illustrated piece last month, said he went over to Jarron’s place to share the news.
“We don’t have a serious tone to our conversations, and I was like, Jarron, I need to talk to you about something serious,” said Jason, who played with the NBA’s Washington Wizards last season.
Added Jarron, a retired professional basketball player: “He was very direct about it. He said, ‘Jarron, I’m gay.’ And I heard it, but I didn’t quite register it. And I went about asking some of the dumbest questions you could possibly ask to someone who just told you that they’re gay.”
Quipped Jason, “Yeah, like, ‘Are you sure?'”
Since Jason’s revelation, he has earned praise from many celebrities and fellow athletes, including Ellen DeGeneres, Neil Patrick Harris, Dwayne Johnson, Katy Perry, Rosie O’Donnell, Kobe Bryant, Andy Roddick and Bill Clinton.
