Jeff Bridges revealed on Monday afternoon that he has been diagnosed with lymphoma.
“As the Dude would say.. New S**T has come to light,” the 70-year-old Academy-Award winner tweeted. “I have been diagnosed with Lymphoma. Although it is a serious disease, I feel fortunate that I have a great team of doctors and the prognosis is good. I’m starting treatment and will keep you posted on my recovery.”
Bridges continued in a Twitter thread that he is “profoundly grateful” for the love and support from his family and friends, and was appreciative of prayers and well wishes following the announcement.
He concluded his message by reminding everyone to vote “because we are all in this together,” referencing his famous motto.
Bridges is currently in production on the action-drama series The Old Man, in which he stars in and is executive producing. Set to debut on FX on Hulu in 2021, the series is produced by Touchstone Television and FX Productions.
In a joint statement, FX, Touchstone Television, Hulu and FXP said, “Our thoughts go out to Jeff and his family during this challenging time and they have our love and support. We wish him a safe and full recovery. And, as Jeff always says, ‘We are all in this together.’ Jeff, we are all in this together with you.”
Bridges, who won the best actor Oscar for 2009’s Crazy Heart and whose most famous roles include “The Dude” in The Big Lebowski, is also a musician who recently unveiled a new line of guitars. He also made his debut as a children’s book author, illustrating Daddy Daughter Day with his own daughter, Isabelle Bridges-Boesch. It was released earlier this month.
