The Dizzy Feet Foundation — co-founded by Nigel Lythgoe and Adam Shankman — has booked Jenna Elfman for its eighth annual National Dance Day, which aims to “promote the benefits and joy of dance.” The July 29 event is scheduled to take place in L.A.’s Grand Park and is co-presented by The Music Center. A sister National Dance Day outing is being hosted by the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., on the same day.
At the flagship event In L.A., also presented by title sponsor YouTube Red, the free celebration will feature a dance card filled with performances and participatory elements for the public. Elfman, a Dizzy Feet Foundation board member, will be joined by World of Dance stars Keone & Mari, and World of Dance’s Kyle Van NewKirk. Other local performers include members from Groov3, Invertigo Dance Theater, Infinite Flow, the DEA Youth Dance Program, Body by Simone and the DJ One in a Million who will close out the afternoon with family friendly dances. Storyteller Christopher Rivas will host.
Dizzy Feet executive director Danae Rees said in a statement, “We look forward to having the public attend our events in Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. However, we have also designed National Dance Day, so that it is accessible to everyone at every ability level, and everywhere in the country. National Dance Day offers free access to dance, that’s diverse and inclusive, and encourages participants to celebrate the art of dance through movement.”
