The American Idol finalist and Oscar-winning actress (Dreamgirls) has inspired women around the world thanks to her professional accomplishments (She’s also a Golden Globe and Grammy winner) and her amazing physical transformation after working with Weight Watchers. Now she hopes her brand new clothing line — the Jennifer Hudson Collection — will will appeal to women of all sizes.
The initial collection is set to launch in September. Prices range from $50 – $170 and the collection includes dresses, tunics, leggings, coats, tops, and more. The most expensive item is a classic gray coat, cinched at the waist with a flare skirt, that’s priced at $170.
Hudson gave a sneak peek of the QVC collection at The Sky Room at New Museum in New York on Tuesday night.
Wearing a curve-hugging dress from her line and Giuseppe Zanotti heels, the newbie fashionista hosted an intimate meet-and-greet with fashion editors and walked them through her collection of affordable basics set to debut at Fashion’s Night Out on September 6.
“I’m nervous and excited at the same time!” she said of her first foray into the design world with retail powerhouse QVC. “I hope the public embraces my line…it’s my baby.”
She told reporters, “I’ve been on both sides of the fence. I’ve been a big girl and now whatever this is, the average size, whatever you want to call it.” She’s now a size 6 and 5’ 9” tall. We’d call that a size small.
To properly launch her first collection, Ms Hudson will appear in a one-hour premiere on the QVC network on September 10th.
Hudson has another big career move to celebrate. She’s signed on to NBC’s hit musical show, Smash, for the second season. Hudson will make her debut in the Season 2 premiere, slated for midseason. She’ll play Veronica Moore, a Tony-winning Broadway star who impacts the lives of Karen (Katharine McPhee) and Ivy (Megan Hilty) on the show.
