Jennifer Hudson and Sofia Vergara are poised to have an unforgettable Oscars week.
The duo will receive top honors at An Unforgettable Evening, presented by Saks Fifth Avenue, on Feb. 27. James Corden will take the stage and host the Beverly Wilshire Hotel-set event on behalf of the Women’s Cancer Research Fund, a program of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
Oscar winner Hudson will be feted with the Nat King Cole Award for her ongoing philanthropic work around women’s issues, and Emmy nominee Vergara will accept the Courage Award for her continued support and dedication to raising awareness for cancer research. Both will deliver speeches in front of what will likely be a starry crowd as the honorary chairs of the event include Rita Wilson, Tom Hanks, Kate Capshaw and Steven Spielberg, along with WCRF co-founders Anne Douglas, Quinn Ezralow, Marion Laurie, Kelly Chapman Meyer and Jamie Tisch.
“On behalf of my co-chairs, we are thrilled to honor Sofia and Jennifer, two powerful women who are deeply committed to women’s health.,” said Wilson said in announcing the news. “Cancer is one of the most pressing public health issues we face today and the WCRF community is making an incredible impact on advancing breakthroughs and bringing us closer to cure.”
An Unforgettable Evening is the flagship fundraising event for WCRF, and for more than 20 years, the night has brought together leaders in entertainment, cancer research and corporate philanthropy in raising funds for pioneering cancer research conducted at medical and academic institutions in Los Angeles and across the country.
It can also be a good time.
At the 2017 event, Hanks went table to table with a large glass to gather tips to get Coldplay’s Chris Martin to stay onstage and continue his surprise musical performance. Later in the night, guests got out of their seats to dance to Jason Derulo following an awards presentation that saw Tom Ford honored for his work in raising awareness for the necessity of cancer research.
Hudson and Vergara’s names will be added to a long list of honorees from years past that includes Courteney Cox, Sheryl Crow, Melissa Etheridge, Carolina Herrera, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Sir Elton John, Nicole Kidman, Gwyneth Paltrow, Stella McCartney and Judy and Leonard Lauder. Saks Fifth Avenue is returning to present An Unforgettable Evening for a 14th time, and over the last 18 years, the company has donated nearly $40 million to cancer research and treatment organizations. Other sponsors include De Grisogono and ALLEVEN.
