Jennifer Lawrence is an Oscar-winning actress known for her starring roles in two lucrative film franchises (Hunger Games and X-Men) and is on the list of highest-paid actors in Hollywood.
But beyond her recognition as “J.Law,” Raven/Mystique or Katniss Everdeen, The Hollywood Reporter looks at five facts you probably didn’t know about Lawrence.
Harry Potter “Obsession”
Lawrence has admitted that the level of devotion her Hunger Games fans have to her is equal to what she had for Harry Potter as an adolescent. “I went through a pretty hard-core Harry Potter phase when I was little. And I was in Kentucky so I never got to meet them or see them,” Lawrence told Extra at Comic-Con. “Even now, I’m so jealous of the kids now because they have Harry Potter World. I didn’t have anything. I didn’t have an outlet. I just had an obsession.”
Youngest Performer to Receive Two Best Actress Noms
Her 2010 Winter’s Bone and 2012 Silver Linings Playbook performances scored the actress two best actress noms, making her the youngest performer to earn the two nominations by age 22. Lawrence took home the best actress Oscar for Silver Linings Playbook.
Her Oscar Lives With Her Parents
While some celebrities might opt for having their golden statuette on display for houseguests to see, the actress admitted that her Oscar lives at her parents’ home in Kentucky. “My parents took it back to Kentucky, ‘cause I felt odd having it, like, on display in my house,” Lawrence said, according to Today. “If anybody’s coming over to my house, I didn’t want them to remember that. Just kind of puts a weird energy out,” she said.
“I put it in the hallway towards the bathroom, and my mom was like, ‘I’m taking it. It shouldn’t be here.’ And now it’s on a piano in Kentucky!”
Afraid of Spiders
Though Lawrence plays fearless Katniss Everdeen in Hunger Games, the actress admitted that her fear of spiders surfaced while filming Catching Fire in Hawaii. “Everybody told me there were no spiders, so when I saw three, I started crying,” she said, according to Independent. “Jungles are not easy when you’re afraid of everything. I think I am a legitimate alcoholic. No, what’s it called? An arachnophobic.”
Battled Social Anxiety
What may come as a surprise to many is that Lawrence battled social anxiety as a child and sought professional help for it. “I was hyperactive, curious about everything. When my mother told me about my childhood, she always told me there was like a light in me, a spark that inspired me constantly. When I entered school, the light went out. We never knew what it was, a kind of social anxiety. But I had friends,” Lawrence said, according to Us Weekly. “I went to see a shrink … Nothing worked.”
