All eyes are on Jennifer Lawrence this weekend — this week, actually — as the awards front-runner steps out on the circuit as an A-list star and would-be A-list fashionista.

The actress has been doing some stylist switch-ups lately (she was with Elizabeth Stewart for a long time, and started working with Rachel Zoe this fall), so we’re not sure what sort of vibe she’s going for on the red carpet this season: goth, glamour, or youthful and fresh? But one thing we do know: she’s a fan of Prabal Gurung, as she selected two of his designs for her first appearances since being named a best-actress nominee for this year’s Oscars.
Lawrence wore his black, dramatic gown with leather detail and open back cut-outs to the Critics Choice Awards on Thursday night, and then a jaunty, colorful, pre-fall rainbow sheath dress with metallic neon tweet inserts to Friday’s AFI lunch. Quite interesting were the accompanying Casadei for Prabal Gurung shoes with ankle straps on mesh in a bright pink, with a white toe cap. They actually had mirrored heels!

Watch this awards season: it’s all about the shoes! Prabal is not known as well for gowns as he is for cocktail dresses – but it’s clear he’s happy to go there and does it very much in his own way. Will there be more Prabals this weekend? We expect so. We hope so.
Thursday night at the Critics, Lawrence’s leather-touched gown was a bit goth, but her makeup — done by Jillian Dempsey using Armani Beaute’ products – was not exactly in balance with the look: her red, red lips and smoky eyes made her look a bit older, and then with big diamond earrings, this was gilding the Lawrence lily. A young, beautiful woman doesn’t need all that makeup. (It’s always lip or eye accent, not both.) But at the AFI lunch, she looked fresh and young and lovely, after doing most of the Silver Linings Playbook press looking much like her character in the movie.
It’s anyone’s guess how the actress will do the Globes and weekend parties – but now that we know that Zoe is dressing her (as well as Anne Hathaway), we’re imagining big glamour. We just hope it isn’t too much glamour.
