The trailer for Lorene Scafaria’s STX Entertainment drama dropped Tuesday night, showing its stars Jennifer Lopez, Constance Wu, Lili Reinhart, Keke Palmer, Cardi B and Lizzo hitting the stage.
Based on Jessica Pressler’s New York magazine story “The Hustlers at Scores,” Hustlers follows a crew of strip-club employees hoping to get back at the affluent Wall Street clients who have wronged them.
“The game is rigged and it does not reward people who play by the rules,” says Lopez’s character, Ramona, who serves as the crew’s ringleader.
Ramona leads her group — which includes Wu’s Destiny, Cardi B’s Diamond, Palmer’s Mercedes, Reinhart’s Annabelle and Lizzo’s Liz — in exacting their revenge.
Also among the cast is Usher, Frank Whaley and Julia Stiles.
“The film is an empathetic look at women and men, our gender roles, what we’re valued for, what we’ve been told is our value in every movie, TV show, every corner of culture,” Scafaria has said of the stripper story. “Men have been told they’re worth the size of their bank accounts. Women have been told they’re worth the symmetry of their faces, their bodies, their beauty, and that’s what this film is based on. The rules of the club are the rules of the world.”
STXfilms is producing Hustlers alongside Lopez, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Benny Medina, Adam McKay, Will Ferrell and Jessica Elbaum for Gloria Sanchez Productions.
Hustlers will hit theaters Sept. 13.
