Jennifer Lopez may hail from New York’s The Bronx borough, but the self-proclaimed “Jenny from the Block” singer hasn’t had much time for her old neighborhood as of late.

A frequently-aired commercial for the new Fiat 500 Cabrio features The American Idol judge driving through what has been made to look like the streets of New York with a voice-over track praising her old stomping grounds.
However, a spokesperson for the singer/actress confirmed to the New York Post that Lopez didn’t actually film any of her scenes in the city, and a body double was used for the East Coast work instead.

“Her portion was filmed in Los Angeles,” J.Lo’s spokesman, Mark Young, said, adding, “I don’t see a problem. There are many cases where films are done the same way.”
The Post also spoke with Fiat spokeswoman Diana Gutierrez, who said, “We took the opportunity to film wherever Ms. Lopez was working at the time to accommodate her schedule … One does not need to be in a specific location to be inspired or continue to be inspired.”

In the ad spot, Lopez appears to be leaving Manhattan, driving back to The Bronx as her voiceover tells viewers “Here, this is my world. This place inspires me. To be tougher, to stay sharper, to think faster,” adding “They may just be streets to you, but to me, they’re a playground.”
When the commercial was first introduced, Fiat head Oliver Francois said, “We watch as she leaves Manhattan and makes her way back to The Bronx, where she grew up and [which she] continues to be inspired by.”
Lopez has been schilling hard for the company, even incorporating the car into her AMA’s performance Nov. 20.
