The Simon Fuller-owned company also revealed its first three broadcast network partners for the program, which include Univision, Televisa and Caracol TV in the U.S., Mexico and Colombia, respectively.
A total of 21 countries are slated to carry the show, which is currently being filmed in English, Spanish and Portuguese. Univision, one of the top five networks in the U.S. irrespective of language, will air one-hour weekly episodes of ¡Q’VIVA! in Spanish. Official sponsors for ¡Q’VIVA! include American Airlines and Blackberry.
Says Fuller: “We are bringing together all the most powerful brands and networks throughout the Americas to broadcast ¡Q’VIVA! THE CHOSEN in a unique collaboration where each country will programme the show simultaneously. It will be a powerful statement confirming the growing importance of Latin culture.”
Lopez, Anthony and director-choeographer Jamie King will shoot the show from October 2011 to January 2012, the statement revealed. During that time, they’ll scour Latin America for untapped talent — singers, dancers, musicians, and performers — while also documenting their own transcontinental travels.
The social media search is already underway. Since June 1, the public has been nominating their country’s best singers, dancers, musicians, and performers on Facebook (facebook.com/qvivathechosen) and YouTube (youtube.com/qviva) and submissions are being meticulously reviewed each week.
Judging by the program’s promotional art, it looks as though Lopez and Anthony will get equal billing on the project, which they first announced in April. The show’s English language partner is expected to be announced “very soon.”
