Getty ImagesThe 2013 Golden Globes actress nominations are an embarrassment of riches. We can’t remember when so many stunning, fashion-forward actresses have been called to set foot on the carpet for the awards show, to take place on Jan. 13.

Now that the guessing game — who will wear who — is in full swing, we can make early but educated predictions.
Here’s how it’s done: One way is to look back at the actresses’ recent red-carpet history. Another is to see who attended which Paris fashion runway collections. The most telling method is to see who is a brand ambassador for a fashion house, perhaps for accessories, beauty or fragrance.

This almost always means that somewhere in that multi-million dollar contract is a clause that stipulates the actress must wear (or at least consider) the designer’s wares for major awards.
Take the Globe-nominated star of Zero Dark Thirty, Jessica Chastain. First thing you need to know is that she’s the new face of YSL’s Manifesto fragrance. She wore vintage YSL to attend the YSL Spring 2013 show in Paris. The busy and much-cast actress also wore YSL to the Lawless New York premiere and the Madagascar 3 NY premiere.
That said, Chastain wore three Oscar-worthy looks at Cannes 2012: A pale pink Alexander McQueen, an Armani Prive classic strapless white stunner and an ethereal Gucci Premiere sheer and embellished gown. But our money’s on Dior. If not for the Globes, definitely for the Oscars.
Naomi Watts can do modern, but vintage looks also suit her to a T. The Australian actress has favored Stella McCartney, Calvin Klein, Armani Prive, Roland Mouret, Chanel and Escada. But we’re thinking her choice will be Zac Posen. Why? Because she wore his sexy, sheer, white feathered gown to the 2011 Vanity Fair bash. And she picked a Posen for New York premiere of The Impossible, for which she was nominated. Place your bets.
Amy Adams started her awards carpet fashion show with Carolina Herreras — a chocolate brown satin gown in 2006 and a crimson satin strapless number in 2009. But The Master star has moved on to Oscar de la Renta, Proenza Schouler, Herve Leger, J. Mendel, Narcisco Rodriguez, Elie Saab and L’Wren Scott. We loved the Scott navy blue high-necked sequin gown that Adams wore to the 2011 Oscars. Adams also wore Armani to the Gotham Independent Film Awards. She’s all over the map, so we’re calling her a wild card.
Rachel Weisz — nominated for The Deep Blue Sea — recently wore Chanel couture to her husband Daniel Craig’s Skyfall London premiere. When she was a red-carpet newbie, she favored Narciso Rodriguez. She’s also fond of Nina Ricci, Sonia Rykiel, Christian Dior and Dolce & Gabbana and has worn a lot of Jason Wu. But after seeing her sculpted black Alexander McQueen at the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Madrid premiere, we’re hoping for more, please.
Emily Blunt — nominated for Salmon Fishing in Yemen — wowed at the Gotham Awards in a Calvin Klein strapless gown. She also wore Klein creative director Francisco Costa’s pale peach gown to the 2012 Met Gala. Usually, what an actress wears to the Met Gala indicates a strong relationship. But she also wore a striking orange Alexander McQueen gown to Harper’s Bazaar Woman of the Year awards and looked amazing in Roland Mouret at the Toronto Film Festival. Another wild card. But our gut says Calvin.

Silver Lining Playbook nominee Jennifer Lawrence has been changing up her look lately — from blond to brunette, from bombshell to edgy fashionista. But keep in mind that she’s now a face of Lady Dior handbags, replacing Mila Kunis, She’s been wearing Raf Simons Dior for her most of Silver Linings events. But there is a tendency to try make her into something she’s not: a coat hanger. She’s got an amazing figure that should not be covered in architectural shapes. She looks best in simple lines. One example: her Toronto Film Fest Antonio Berardi white resort dress. Or her Prabal Gurung gold gown worn to the Hunger Games L.A. premiere
Anne Hathaway? Well, we know it won’t be Tom Ford. The Les Miserable front runner is going to distance herself from Ford after the recent embarrassing no-underwear mishap where the new meme, “the Full Hathaway,” dominated the Internet. And then there were those bondage boots. She didn’t get wild raves for her Givenchy couture white gown at the London premiere either. We think she’ll stay on the edgy side to flatter her gamine hair and thinner frame. But because of her close friendship with Valentino (he designed her wedding dress ), she may choose one of his classic creations for the Globes or the big O.
Marion Cotillard has been a Lady Dior handbag brand ambassador since 2008. She seems to wear nothing but Dior, to the point that, well, it’s getting kind of boring. She wore Dior to the recent Gotham Independent Film Awards and to the New York, London, Toronto and AFI Fest premieres of Rust and Bone. And since she’s designing a handbag for the house, she may even carry it. We’re betting there’s a Raf Simons Dior couture dress already made for her. Maybe a couple.
As for Nicole Kidman, your guess is as good as ours. If your guess is that she will enlist her old stylist-turned-designer L’Wren Scott.
