Hot Tub Time Machine 2 chose the right time to joke about the future of The Daily Show.
In a clip from the upcoming time-travel film, the main characters end up in 2025, where they look up at a TV and realize that Jon Stewart is no longer hosting the Comedy Central series.
“Hey, welcome to the Daily Show — I’m Jessica Williams,” present-day Daily Show correspondent Williams says. In the clip, Williams — seated at a desk much like Stewart’s actual one — then mentions that Neil Patrick Harris is now president, and “Dame Jennifer Lawrence” is apparently starring in a Meryl Streep biopic called Streepin’ It Real.
Rob Corddry‘s character then says, “Hey, how do they get the people to be on this show?” This inside joke refers to the fact that Corddry himself was a Daily Show correspondent until 2006.
With the news coming this week that Stewart is preparing to step down as host of the late-night staple, the show’s fans are wondering who will replace him, and Williams has been seen by some to be a viable candidate.
Hot Tub Time Machine 2, a follow-up to the 2010 original, also stars Adam Scott, Craig Robinson, Clark Duke, Chevy Chase and Gillian Jacobs. It hopes to make a splash when it opens in theaters on Feb. 20.
The clip, which first appeared on Uproxx, can be seen below.
