Jimmy Kimmel Pushes Hillary Clinton on Her Plans for 2016

It’s a question Hillary Clinton gets asked all the time these days: Is she running for president in 2016? On Saturday evening, talk-show host Jimmy Kimmel, who was moderating a discussion with Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton at an Arizona conference, managed to push the former secretary of state a bit closer to announcing her future plans.

The topic came up during the evening session of the Clinton Global Initiative University in Tempe, Ariz., when Kimmel, who had been discussing a wide range of subjects onstage with the three Clintons, allowed members of the audience to ask their own questions.

A woman from UC Berkeley asked if Clinton would consider joining the race. She said: “Ms. Clinton, if you don’t represent women in politics in America as future president, then who will?”

As the crowd cheered, Kimmel followed up: “That’s a very good question. It looks like you have support here. And also, to add to that, when you do run for president, will you use the old Clinton campaign lawn signs?”

Clinton responded by telling the student that she appreciated the sentiment. “I am very much concerned about the direction of our country, and it’s not just who runs for office but what they do when they get there and how we work together and particularly empower young people. We can tackle some of these hard decisions we have just been talking about so–“

Kimmel interrupted. “She wants an answer.”

“OK, I’m getting to it,” Clinton said, laughing. “Let me say this, give me your name and number.”

The student said she would be proud to run Clinton’s campaign.

“I like your attitude, your confidence,” Clinton said. “I’m obviously thinking about all kinds of decisions.”

Kimmel asked: “Will you and the president be having more children?”

Clinton: “I wouldn’t mind one of those grandchildren I’ve been hearing so much about.”

Chelsea commented: “Unapologetic in public and in private.”

Clinton tried to change the subject by bringing up Matt Damon, a frequent attendee of Clinton Global Initiative conferences: “I’ve been waiting for more than an hour now for Matt Damon to come out,” she said.

“We ran out of time for him, unfortunately,” Kimmel said, adding: “I love that when asked the question that everyone asks you all the time, you threw your daughter right under the bus.”

Chelsea joked: “Did you notice that?”

Finally, Kimmel wrapped up the exchange by asking the Clintons, “Should you wind up back in the White House, will Chelsea get her old room back or will you convert that into a home gym?”

The answer? Just laughs.
