AP Images/InvisionParamount Pictures has extended its first-look agreement with J.J. Abrams‘ Bad Robot Productions through July, 2018, the two companies announced Wednesday.
While Abrams is currently directing Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens for Disney, which is planning a Dec. 18, 2015, Bad Robot is currently shooting Mission: Impossible V for Paramount with Tom Cruise starring and Christopher McQuarrie directing. The film is also being produced by Cruise, and co-financed by Skydance Productions and will be released on July 31, 2015.
Bad Robot is also in post-production on The Cellar, a thriller starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead and John Goodman. The next Star Trek film, produced by Bad Robot and directed by Justin Lin, is currently in preproduction and is scheduled to begin filming this summer for release in July, 2016.
Bad Robot and Paramount’s first-look partnership began in 2006. The company’s most recent production was 2013’s Star Trek Into Darkness, produced by Bad Robot and co-financed by Skydance Productions, which grossed more than $450 million worldwide. Additional titles from Paramount and Bad Robot’s partnership include 2008’s Cloverfield, 2009’s Star Trek, 2010’s Morning Glory, 2011’s Super 8 and 2011’s Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.
