Joe Zee is a man of many talents: editor-in-chief of the recently launched Yahoo Style (currently featuring a digital cover story on Jessica Biel), host of Sundance Channel’s Revealing and On the Line With Joe Zee, designer of the Styled by Joe Zee line, fashion stylist, Old Navy style ambassador and oh, a regular red-carpet correspondent.
In the wake of the news about Joan Rivers‘ death on Thursday, Zee shared that the late comedian had offered him one simple tip for working the red carpet when they first met a while back at a fashion show and later had dinner together with a few mutual friends.
“She was just all about having fun on the red carpet,” he told Pret-a-Reporter at the Old Navy x Joe Zee bash Thursday night, which also saw Katie Holmes and Hilary Rhoda in attendance. “A lot of the people watching the red carpet don’t realize how crazy it gets, but for her, she’s just like, ‘Have fun!’ It seems obvious, but you forget. Then you think, ‘You’re right. Let’s not stress and have fun.’ And I think that was just her attitude about life.”
Though he didn’t interact with Rivers often, the Old Navy-clad Zee shared that he will never forgot the night they shared a meal together. Said Zee: “You know the Fashion Police Joan, red carpet Joan, TV Joan, but when you’re actually at dinner with someone — there’s not that performance Joan, so you got to see such a beautiful soul and a woman who genuinely cares about the people who were there and interested in everything that was going on. And I’m not saying she’s not like that on stage, but it was just so warm and kind.”
