Star Wars actor John Boyega is in negotiations to star in A Naked Singularity.
The film will be an adaptation of Sergio De La Pava’s debut novel of the same name, which follows Casi, who works in New York as a successful public defender. He begins to strain under the weight of his work and starts to question everything after he loses his first case. The sprawling novel, which explores the American criminal justice system, was first self-published in 2008 and republished in 2012. It later won the PEN Prize for Debut Fiction.
David Matthews (Narcos, Vinyl, Tyrant) penned the script, with Chase Palmer, who wrote the screenplay for 2017’s horror hit It, coming on to also work on the script and will direct.
Scott Free Productions, which has Wash Westmoreland’s The Earthquake Bird for Netflix, starring Alicia Vikander, coming up next, is producing the film, with 3311 Productions (Table 19, Brigsby Bear) financing. Tony Ganz is also producing.
Boyega stars as Finn in the Star Wars franchise, first appearing in 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens. After that breakout performance, the British actor booked a slew of roles in notable films, including The Circle, Detroit and Pacific Rim: Uprising, while also appearing in 2017’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi. He next will be seen in Netflix’s miniseries Watership Down, which features a star-studded cast including James McAvoy, Ben Kingsley and Daniel Kaluuya.
Boyega is repped by WME, Identity Agency Group in the U.K. and Hansen, Jacobson.
Palmer, who wrote It with Cary Joji Fukunaga, is working on several other scripts, including The Robber and The Search for WondLa. He is repped by WME, Gotham Group and Weintraub Tobin.
Matthews is repped by WME, Anonymous Content and Frankfurt Kurnit.
