Fox 2000 has snapped up John Grisham‘s best-seller The Litigators, with Twilight producers Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen on board to produce through their Fox-based Temple Hill banner.
The legal thriller, which marked Grisham’s 25th novel (he since has written two more), takes place at a two-partner Chicago law firm attempting to strike it rich in a class-action lawsuit over a cholesterol-reduction drug by a major pharmaceutical company. A Harvard Law School grad joins the firm only to find himself litigating against his former law firm in this case.
The studio is looking for a writer to adapt.
Grisham’s courtroom-set page-turners have proved to be catnip for Hollywood. Eight of his books have been made into films, including The Firm, The Pelican Brief and The Rainmaker.

Fox 2000 already is developing Grisham’s The Racketeer, with Daniel Espinosa attached to direct. That project has Michael Shamberg and Stacey Sher producing. And producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura is developing an adaptation of the author’s The Associate with Adrian Lyne attached to direct. Oscar-winning writer William Monahan (The Departed) penned the screenplay.
Grisham’s books (about 275 million in print worldwide and counting) have traveled to the small screen, as well. In 2003, CBS broadcast A Painted House — a departure from the legal genre — under its Hallmark Hall of Fame logo. The Firm and The Client also spawned short-lived TV series.
