John Hawkes is set to star in Too Late, an indie drama that is serving as the feature directorial debut of Dennis Hauck, the helmer behind such festival circuit shorts as Sunday Punch.
The script, also by Hauck, reveals in non-linear fashion the tangled relationship between a troubled private investigator (Hawkes) and the missing woman he’s hired to help find.

Rider Strong (Cabin Fever), Natalie Zea (Justified), Dichen Lachman (Dollhouse), Brett Jacobsen (Myth of the American Sleepover) and Academy Award-nominated director and occasional actor Peter Bogdanovich are also in the cast.
Alexandra Barreto and Taylor Feltner are producing under Hauck’s Foe Killer Films banner.
Production will begin in late May in Los Angeles.
While Hawkes has been acting since the 1980s, it was his Oscar-nominated turn in 2010’s Winter’s Bone that got Hollywood’s attention. He followed that up by receiving an Indie Spirit Award nomination for last year’s Martha Marcy May Marlene.
Dates are still being worked out, but he likely will shoot Switch, a prequel of sorts to Jackie Brown based on the Elmore Leonard novel, whose cast also includes Jennifer Aniston, Dennis Quaid and Ty Burrell, after he completes Too Late.
Hawkes is repped by Innovative Artists, Thruline, and attorney Todd Rubenstein.
