Twitter users on Saturday sent a wave of well wishes to director John Singleton following initial reports that he had suffered a stroke.
Singleton suffered a stroke while at the hospital seeking medical care, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed later on Saturday. According to a family statement, he was in the ICU after the episode occurred Wednesday and was under “great medical care.”
Singleton — whose résumé includes his directing debut Boyz n the Hood, which earned him Oscar nominations for best director and best original screenplay; Shaft; 2 Fast 2 Furious; Four Brothers; the music video for Michael Jackson’s “Remember the Time”; and episodes of Empire, Billions, 30 for 30 and American Crime Story — is co-creator and executive producer of FX’s Snowfall, which was renewed for a third season in September. As of earlier this month, the cast was doing a table read for season three’s sixth episode.
“We are sad to learn the news of John’s condition, but we know he’s a fighter. The thoughts and prayers of everyone at FX and his Snowfall family are with him and we are hopeful for a complete and speedy recovery,” FX Networks said in a statement..
Early on Saturday morning, rapper-actor Snoop Dogg posted a picture of himself and Singleton on Instagram, writing, “Pray 4 my brother.”
Billions co-creator Brian Koppelman called working with Singleton a “career highlight” and said he was hoping to work with him again soon.
Chicago Fire co-creator Derek Haas said, “John Singleton is a wonderful human. Get well!”

For Dave and me, working with John Singleton is a career highlight. And getting to know him has been even better. Here’s to a full and quick recovery. (We have been scheming on a project together. He’s got to get well so we can all get to it!).
