The Disney release is the top-grossing international release, with $731.9 million through June 19. In the U.S. the film ranks second with $220.7 million.
Peter Montan/DisneyJohnny Depp is flying to the U.S. for surgery after injuring his hand shooting Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales in Australia last weekend, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
A spokesman for the production confirmed that the injury happened off set and Depp’s departure will have a “minimal” impact on filming. Production on the fifth installment of the Pirates franchise began last month on Australia’s Gold Coast and the release date is still set for July 7, 2017. TheWrap first reported the news.
Depp reprises his role of Captain Jack Sparrow in Dead Men Tell No Tales and is joined in the cast and by rising stars Brenton Thwaites and Kaya Scodelario, as well as Javier Bardem, in a villainous role. The film is directed by Kon Tiki directors Espen Sandberg and Joachim Ronning.
