The Hollywood Reporter has learned from an unnamed source that, even after all the hoopla of his attendance, Johnny Depp will not be attending tonight’s CFDA Awards in New York City — the Oscars of fashion, as it’s known. He’s being honored with the Icon Award, but we hear he made a video instead. And John Waters will pick up the award for him. Waters, if you recall directed Depp in Cry Baby.

Anyone who watched the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday night could see Depp’s reaction to getting MTV’s “Generation Award” – instead of winded speaches, he came out and rock out with The Black Keys, and barely said anything at all, except to thank his presenters — Steven Tyler and Joe Perry — and the band. He was dressed quite appropriately for the MTV Movie Awards: jeans, shirt, vest, jewelry and funky hat. Too bad we will deprived of the pleasure of finding out what Depp would wear to the CFDA Awards as a fashion icon.
