Mad Men star Jon Hamm is a big believer that the show must not go on.
Showrunner Matthew Weiner has said the AMC drama series will come to an end after three more seasons, and Hamm thinks that’s just about right.
“I think it should end,” he told the BBC. “Everything should end. I was a big fan of The Office [in the U.K.] because it ended.”
The fifth season starts shooting in late July or August, but Hamm hasn’t seen any scripts yet.
“I don’t think they exist,” he said. “The way Matthew writes the show is very organically. He starts when he starts and eventually there are scripts but I certainly haven’t seen them.”
As for the hold-up over recent contract negotiations, Hamm blames the logistics of nailing down deal points.
“It was nobody’s fault really,” he said. “It was the network and the studio. When billionaires fight it tends to take a lot longer than when normal people do.”
Meanwhile, Hamm, 40, added that he doesn’t take his late success for granted.
“It’s crazy that this has happened,” he said. “I’m a very, very lucky human being.”
