British actor Jonathan Pryce is the latest name added to the list of honorees at the Capri, Hollywood fest this year.
Filmmaker Terry Gilliam will present Pryce with the Capri Legend Award on Dec. 30 during the event on the picturesque island off of Naples. Gilliam and Pryce have been friends and collaborators since working together on the cult movies Brazil (1985), The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (1988), The Brothers Grimm (2005) and The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, which is set to be released next year in the U.S.
Pryce is currently receiving critical praise for his performance in Bjorn Runge’s The Wife, the story of a marriage between Joe (Pryce) and Joan (Glenn Close). As Joe, a great American writer, is about to be presented with the Nobel Prize, Joan begins to reexamine her role as a complementary wife over 40 years of marriage.
Pryce also plays Pope Francis in Fernando Meirelles’ upcoming film The Pope. He stars opposite Anthony Hopkins, who portrays Pope Benedict, in a story that explores the opposing policies of the Catholic leaders.
Pryce has starred in more than 70 films and 40 television shows over his career, including a recent memorable turn as the character of “High Sparrow” on Game of Thrones.
“Jonathan Pryce is a brilliant artist who has delivered so many memorable performances during his illustrious career,” said festival producer-founder Pascal Vicedomini of the announcement. “We are extremely pleased to be honoring him and that he will be joining us in Capri during the year-end holidays to accept his award.”
Previous recipients of the Capri Legend Award include Gilliam, Omar Sharif, Ben Kingsley, Samuel L. Jackson, Faye Dunaway, Vanessa Redgrave and Helen Mirren.
Capri, Hollywood is set to kick off Dec. 27 with the European premiere of Adam McKay’s Vice, starring Christian Bale. The annual festival has become a destination for awards campaigning, attracting key Hollywood contenders, given its proximity to the Academy Awards and its relaxed low-key atmosphere over the New Year’s holiday each year. The event will conclude Jan. 2.
