ABC is banking on Descendants’ star Judy Greer.
The network ordered her single-camera comedy, American Judy, to pilot. The half-hour project centers on a cosmopolitan woman who gets married and becomes a fish out of water in the suburbs. She has to juggle step-kids, a mother-in-law and the ex-wife of her husband who also happens to be the town sheriff.

The comedy, set up at ABC Studios, is being penned by Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont. Greer, who has a long small screen history as a supporting actress, is on board to star and executive produce. David Gardner will join her as an EP.
This marks ABC’s ninth comedy pickup this development season. Other high-profile projects include Dan Fogelman’s untitled alien family comedy with Jami Gertz and Manzanis starring Kirstie Alley and Rhea Pearlman.
Greer, whose credits include Archer, Two and a Half Men and Mad Love, is repped by CAA.
