Julia Stiles’ Web Series ‘Blue’ to Return for Season 2

YouTube channel WIGS announced Wednesday the return of two of its web series, Blue and Lauren, and unveiled a new relationship show, Paloma.

WIGS is a scripted drama YouTube channel, featuring original series, short films and documentaries, all with female leads. The channel launched in May 2012 by director-producers Jon Avnet (Black Swan), Rodrigo Garcia (Big Love) and Jake Avnet.

Garcia writes and directs Blue, which sees Julia Stiles (Silver Linings Playbook) as a single mom who’s trying to protect her son from the consequences of her secret career as an escort. The show also stars Mark Consuelos (All My Children) and James Morrison (Revenge).

The new season of Blue will premiere March 15, with the release of seven episodes. Over the next four Fridays, the rest of the 26 episodes will be released, with the final installment falling on April 5.

Original series Lauren will also return for a second season, with new episodes directed by Jon Avnet. The series, which stars Troian Bellisario (Pretty Little Liars), Jennifer Beals (The L Word) and Sean Harmon (NCIS), explores the effects of dealing with sexual assault in the military.

There are 12 new episodes in the second season, which is scheduled to premiere this spring.

Finally, WIGS’ new Paloma series will debut this spring. The series is written and directed by Stiles and stars Grace Gummer (Margin Call) as a young woman dealing with both romantic and workplace relationships.

“We’re looking forward to hearing what fans think of the new installments of these series but are hoping to introduce them to new viewers as well,” Garcia said. “The inability for content to ‘become old’ is one of the qualities intrinsic to the platform that drew Julia Stiles to WIGS. As a writer, director and actress on the channel, she is a huge advocate for us, and we’re truly blessed to have her among our talented cast and crew on both Blue and Paloma.”

Fox announced a multi-year partnership with WIGS in February, focusing on programming, marketing and distribution.

“The consumer feedback has been inspiring, and we expect this season to be even more spectacular than the first,” said Kiliaen Van Rensselaer, senior vp multi-platform programming at Fox. “We’re thrilled to be supporting Rodrigo Garcia and Jon Avnet as they continue to trail-blaze with this important endeavor.”
