On May 21, NBC will be bringing the U.K.’s No.1 fundraising event, Red Nose Day, to the U.S. for the first time.
The three-hour special will feature original videos from Funny or Die, comedy sketches, short films and a slew of live music performances. Proceeds from the event will help 12 charity organizations raise money for impoverished children across the world.
Julianne Moore, Reese Witherspoon, Simon Cowell and Yvette Nicole Brown will be participating in the fundraiser, alongside stars such as Will Ferrell, Elizabeth Banks, Chris Pine, John Krasinski, Emily Blunt, Michelle Rodriguez, Anna Kendrick, Gwyneth Paltrow, Sam Smith, John Legend, Matt Lauer, Carson Daly and Voice coaches Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Christina Aguilera and Pharrell Williams.
Founded by director Richard Curtis, the event has raised over $1 billion over the past 30 years it has taken place in the U.K. Viewers are encouraged to purchase “red noses” (sold at Walgreens and Duane Reade stores), organize their own fundraisers and donate during the televised event to benefit NBC charity partners such as Boys & Girls Clubs of America and Children’s Health Fund.
The special will air live on NBC from 8-11 p.m. ET.
