The Hamptons International Film Festival will be alive with the sound of support for Julie Andrews this fall.
The acclaimed star of such classic films as Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music will be honored with a lifetime achievement award as part of the fest’s 25th anniversary.
The Oscar-winning actress was a 2001 Kennedy Center honoree, a Disney Legend inductee and the recipient of a SAG Life Achievement Award. Andrews, who is also known for her Broadway roles in My Fair Lady and Camelot, recently co-created and stars on the Netflix kids series Julie’s Greenroom.
“Julie Andrews is a true icon and captured the hearts and imaginations of children and adults alike the moment she first appeared on screen in Mary Poppins,” HIFF co-chairman Alec Baldwin said Tuesday in a statement. “Since then she has never ceased to amaze and stands as a true role model and inspiration. We are proud to honor her at the festival and celebrate her incredible career.”
As part of the festival’s celebration of Andrews, HIFF and the Motion Picture Academy will co-present a screening of her 1982 Oscar-winning film Victor/Victoria on Saturday, Oct. 7, in East Hampton, N.Y. She will then participate in a post-screening conversation with Baldwin and receive the lifetime achievement award.
“We are thrilled to honor Julie Andrews, whose incredible and diverse career speaks for itself,” said HIFF executive director Anne Chaisson. “We look forward to celebrating the milestone of our 25th anniversary, and welcoming back The Academy for this special celebration.”
The 25th annual Hamptons International Film Festival is set to run Oct. 5-9.
