Celebrity hairstylist Bridget Brager does fantastic things with a celebrity head of hair — she works with January Jones, Jenna Dewan Tatum and Kieran Shipka, in addition to frequent collaborations with Kate Bosworth. For Sunday night’s Golden Globes, the mane expert kept it fairly low key. “We wanted the hair to be modern and effortless, with a subtle point of interest,” she says.
Bosworth’s Dolce & Gabbana Couture gown was such a “show-stopper, we didn’t want any other elements to compete,” says Brager, so — the ideal hairstyle? A slick, classic chignon, neither high nor low. She breaks down the steps she took to accomplish the look, which started with a dime-sized amount of Moroccanoil Treatment Light ($44) applied to the actress’s damp hair.
Step two: “To create lots of volume, hold and lift, I applied Moroccanoil Root Boost ($29) to Kate’s roots and layered on Moroccanoil Thickening Lotion ($29), raking it from root to tip with my fingers.” Next, Brager blew Bosworth’s hair dry with a round brush in large sections to create volume. Step four started the style: “I began by creating a natural offset part using my finger to add a slight wave, then brushed the hair into a sleek ponytail at the back mid-center of her head,” she says.
Then Brager used more of the first product, smoothed through the lengths of her ponytail, to help twist it into a tight chignon, which she secured with hairpins. Finally, she says, “I misted her hair with Moroccanoil Luminous Hair Spray ($10) to set the look and add red carpet-worthy shine.”
