Actress Kate del Castillo on Monday made her first public statement since Sean Penn’s Rolling Stone interview with Mexican drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman was published last week.
Del Castillo, who arranged the sit-down between Penn and El Chapo, did not specify where and when she would come forward to talk about the events surrounding the meeting that reportedly led to Guzman’s dramatic arrest.
There are many unanswered questions surrounding the film and TV actress, including details about her relationship with the Mexican kingpin and a biopic that she was producing about his life.
On Tuesday, Charlie Rose said he landed the first interview with Penn following the infamous sit-down.
“I have a thousand questions for Sean and all the other people involved,” said Rose.
The Mexican daily Milenio on Wednesday released a transcript of phone texts between Del Castillo and El Chapo that were exchanged prior to Guzman’s arrest.
The texts revealed that El Chapo was infatuated with the actress.
“I am more excited about you than the [movie] script,” El Chapo told Del Castillo.
The transcript also brought to light that El Chapo had no knowledge of who Penn was prior to the Rolling Stone interview.
