A Republican Super PAC is using the controversial Kathy Griffin photo shoot featuring a bloody faux Donald Trump head against Democrat Jon Ossoff, who is running against Republican Karen Handel in Georgia’s 6th Congressional District’s special election.
The new ad calls the act by Griffin another example of “liberal extremists” who have “gone too far.” The video shows footage of the comedian at the shoot, while a narrator says, “Now a celebrity Jon Ossoff supporter is making jokes about beheading the president of the United States. It’s not funny.”
Griffin made waves online Tuesday when photos of her holding a fake, bloodied depiction of President Trump’s head surfaced online. The images are part of a photo shoot the comedian did with controversial photographer Tyler Shields.
According to reports, the ad is not yet on the air. “Jon Ossoff believes what Kathy Griffin did was despicable and for Karen Handel’s Super PAC to say otherwise is a disgrace,” Ossoff spokeswoman Sacha Haworth said Thursday in a statement. “Karen Handel should immediately demand this ad be pulled before any more children have to see these disturbing images on TV.”
The ad also features images of outspoken liberal filmmaker Michael Moore, protestors smashing cars and windows, and cars being set on fire.

Griffin apologized for the images following online backlash, despite initially defending them. “I sincerely apologize,” she said in a video on Twitter. “I went way too far. The image is too disturbing. I understand how it offends people, it wasn’t funny, I get it.”
She also asked for forgiveness and said she would request for the images to be taken down.

Trump himself later weighed in on the photos, tweeting, “Kathy Griffin should be ashamed of herself. My children, especially my 11 year old son, Barron, are having a hard time with this. Sick!”
Despite the apology, CNN parted ways with the star on Wednesday, saying in a statement, “CNN has terminated our agreement with Kathy Griffin to appear on our New Year’s Eve program.”
Another network statement added, “We found what [Griffin] did disgusting and offensive. We are pleased to see she has apologized and asked that the photos be taken down.”
