Holmes will also star in her directorial debut, which centers on a mother (Holmes) and her 13-year-old daughter, who live together on the edge of poverty.
Jane Rosenthal (Little Fockers) has signed on to produce the project, and The Fault in Our Stars director Josh Boone will pen the script.
All We Had, which is Annie Weatherwax‘s debut novel, hit shelves in August. When Holmes optioned it, it was assumed that she would produce and most likely star, but the Miss Meadows actress also has decided to direct. Berry Welsh, vp production, will produce with Holmes and Rosenthal.
“Katie has such a clear vision for the book’s irreverent, original mother-daughter relationship. Her passion for the material, along with Josh Boone’s ability to tell stories grounded in the comedy and drama of every day, will truly bring these characters to life,” said Rosenthal in a statement.
Holmes’ latest acting project, Miss Meadows, premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and will hit theaters on Nov. 14. Her other recent projects include The Giver and Take This Waltz. She’s repped by Untitled Entertainment, ICM and Sloan Offer.
Boone directed the 2014 teen cancer drama Fault in Our Stars, a breakout hit at the box office. He also wrote and directed Stuck in Love, and he’s attached to direct The Stand. He’s repped by CAA, as is Rosenthal.
