Entertainment One has acquired U.S. and Canada distribution rights for the dark comedy Miss Meadows, starring Katie Holmes.
The film, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, stars Holmes as a prim, tap-dancing schoolteacher in a small town who moonlights as a vigilante killing criminals. Her work gets complicated when she becomes romantically involved with the town sheriff (James Badge Dale).

Karen Leigh Hopkins wrote and directed the film, which was produced by Eric Brenner and Rob Carliner. Entertainment One is planning on releasing it in fall 2014.
“Miss Meadows is a witty, smart and vibrant film, and Katie is an absolute sensation as the seemingly wholesome, innocent teacher with a seriously deadly alter ego,” said Berry Meyerowitz, eOne’s president of U.S. film and distribution. “The film is as colorful and irreverent as it is dark and subversive, and audiences will fall in love with the fresh story that Karen Leigh Hopkins has brought to life.”
The acquisition was negotiated for eOne Films by svp acquisitions Larry Greenberg and by ICM Partners on behalf of the filmmakers.
Miss Meadows is one of several upcoming indie dramas for Holmes, which include the Anton Chekhov adaptation Days and Nights and the mental illness drama Mania Days. The actress next appears in The Giver, the big-screen take on Lois Lowry‘s novel.
