When it comes to dressing Katy Perry and Kate Mara, power stylist Johnny Wujek (No. 19 on THR‘s Top 25 Power Stylist) knows how to create memorable red-carpet moments for his A-list clients. At the Dr. Scholls/Sportie LA event earlier this month, we caught up with the stylist and chatted about the shoes he expects to see at Oscars red carpet on Sunday.

Pret-a-Reporter: What shoes do you predict we’ll see on the red carpet at the Oscars?
Johnny Wujek: It’s such a fun place for people to play. I see a lot of color, sexy, sexy heels. Dior, Giambattista Valli, maybe Gaultier in there, all my favorites, McQueen — all the big guns come out that night.
What are some of the emerging shoe designers you love for the red carpet?
I love Charlotte Olympia, Nicholas Kirkwood, Sophia Webster, who we just wore at the Grammys on Sunday. I love a sense of humor when it comes to shoes. Sophia Webster made an amazing flamingo heel that I’m obsessed with. I love flamingos. I have a huge flamingo tattoo.
What do you think about the dyed to match we’re seeing this awards season on the red carpet?
I love to match colors, play with color, pop a color. I love a color palette that all goes together even if you just dye the shoe into the palette of the dress. Katy and I match her clothes to her hair, to her shoes. I love color on color.
What are your favorite shoes?
I am a shoe whore. It’s hard to say. I love Nikes, Creative Recreation, Giuseppe Zanotti, Christian Louboutin. I just love them all because each one is so different. Every day is a different feeling. But now that I’ve got my Dr. Scholls on — I got to tell you, they are so comfortable — and so cool, very rugged, very Jake Ryan in Sixteen Candles.

Speaking of Scholls, that classic Dr. Scholls women’s sandal — how would you style it out?
You imagine that sandal to be totally relaxed – but right now, you can really dress a casual sandal up with a cute dress, a skinny jean and cute jacket — it’s not just a sandal that goes to the beach, you can really wear it so many different ways.
What are you going to wear for the Oscars?
I’ll be wearing slippers because I will be at home. I live in slippers at home. The kind you get at CVS — $3.99. I just go through them!
What do you see as the next big trend in shoes?
I think the next thing to happen will be a mis-matched shoe. We did that with Katy in her “Friday Night” video. I painted one stiletto blue and one yellow with nail polish, and I was convinced this would be the next thing. And I’ve been starting to see it a little bit here and there for men’s and I think women’s will be next. Mark my words!
