The rivalry between Kendrick Lamar and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis has remained surprisingly civilized despite the Seattle rap duo sweeping every major hip-hop award at the Grammys on Sunday.
Although he walked away empty-handed while Macklmore juggled four awards, Lamar has reacted to the domination with dignity.
“It’s well-deserved; he did what he did, man,” said Kendrick, reported XXL. “He went out there and hustled and grinded. Everything happens for a reason; the universe comes back around, that’s how it go.”
Rather than complain about his lack of accolades (unlike his Twitter followers who were quick to voice their outrage online), the Compton-born rapper did say he thought hip-hop as a whole should be recognized more at awards shows.

“I definitely feel like they should always have more of the culture up in there, for sure, because we definitely stand out just like any other genre,” he replied, when asked if he thought the Grammys undervalued hip-hop.
“We part of the world. We part of the movement. So I think any awards, including the Grammys, should always push for more hip-hop because it’s music as a whole, it’s not just splitting different regions. Everything moves as far as sound and vibrations, and that’s how it goes. And we are a part of that.”
STORY: Grammys: Macklemore Tells Kendrick Lamar It ‘Sucks That I Robbed You
As for the “Thrift Shop” rapper, he immediately lamented over Lamar’s loss after the ceremony, sending him a message that read:
“You got robbed. I wanted you to win. You should have. It’s weird and sucks that I robbed you. I was gonna say that during the speech. Then the music started playing during my speech, and I froze,” wrote Macklemore.
“Anyway, you know what it is. Congrats on this year and your music. Appreciate you as an artist and as a friend. Much love.”
