A record 1.9 million total viewers watched the opening night of the controversial The Kennedys on the ReelzChannel Sunday.
The mini-series, which was originally scrapped by the History channel, received a 2.5 gross household coverage area rating.
“Viewers across America showed their ongoing fascination with the Kennedy family and, specifically, their desire to see such a star-studded cast in the highly-anticipated ‘The Kennedys’,” ReelzChannel CEO Stan E. Hubbard, said in a statement Monday. “In acquiring ‘The Kennedys’ our aim was to give viewers an opportunity to watch an incredible movie event with massive star power and to also put a spotlight on our network like never before. Viewers proved they could find our relatively new and independent network and when they did, Greg, Barry, Katie and Tom delivered!”
The two-episode beginning airs again tonight at 8pm ET and at 8pm PT.
A third episode, titled “Bay of Pigs,” airs Tuesday, and a new episode will air every weeknight at 8pm ET and at 8pm PT through Apr. 8.
ReelzChannel also has announced that episodes 1-6 will air back-to-back Sat., Apr. 9 starting at 2pm ET/ 11am PT and again on Sun., Apr. 10 starting at 1pm ET/ 10am PT. T
The conclusion airs on Sun., Apr. 10, with the final two episodes airing back to back starting at 8pm ET and at 8pm PT.
Despite an A-list cast including Greg Kinnear, Katie Holmes and Tom Wilkinson, the mini-series has been widely panned by critics, with THR’s Tm Goodman calling it a “hamfisted mess.”
