Shoemaker Kenneth Cole has apologized after using the uproar in Cairo to promote his spring line on Twitter Thursday morning.
“Millions are in uproar in #Cairo. Rumor is they heard our new spring collection is now available online….” read a Twitter message which was to 8,000 followers.
The message was signed “KC.” (The outspoken shoemaker has said he writes all the Tweets signed “KC.”)
It triggered a series of complaints from users who called the Tweet tasteless.
“You should be ashamed of yourselves @KennethCole ! How tasteless and insensitive! People are dying there!” one Twitter user wrote.
About an hour later, the company Tweeted an apology: “We weren’t intending to make light of a serious situation. We understand the sensitivity of this historic moment -KC”
