AP ImagesThe refusal of Fox News anchor Bill O’Reilly to apologize after calling Russian president Vladimir Putin “a killer” on the air over the weekend damages Fox News’ reputation, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov was quoted as saying by Russian news agency Interfax on Tuesday.
“In any case, if an offense is made by a journalist of a news outlet and is later silenced by its management, [it] characterizes that news outlet in a bad way,” he said.
Peskov also reacted to O’Reilly’s sarcastic remark on Monday’s episode of his show about apologizing by saying that he will put it “on his agenda for 2023.” He added, though, that the Kremlin won’t blow the incident “out of proportion.”
Although the Kremlin isn’t apparently considering any punishment for Fox News, outspoken conservative legislator Vitaly Milonov called for stripping Fox News’ Russian correspondents of their accreditation.
“Fox News’ accreditation should go to hell unless they throw out that dog,” he was quoted as saying by news agency Ura.ru, referring to O’Reilly.
