Angelenos dreaming of the City of Light in spring are in luck, as two upcoming events promise to inject a heady dose of Parisian culture into the L.A. atmosphere. The festivities will commence April 26, as Le Grand Fooding Crush Paris-Los Angeles invades the Geffen Contemporary at MOCA and Paris Photo Los Angeles overtakes Paramount Pictures Studios.
Le Grand Fooding Crush Paris-Los Angeles
Journalist and Le Fooding founder Alexandre Cammas, who affectionately refers to Los Angeles as “the capital of culinary combinations,” will stage one of his signature food festivals – previously held in Paris, New York City and Milan – in Los Angeles for the first time April 26-27.
Backed by Veuve Clicquot, the urban-style picnic will include exclusive tastings prepared by an eclectic combination of four Parisian and six Angeleno chefs. Performances by M83 and Kitsuné, limited-edition T-shirts designed by street artists Shepard Fairey and André Saraiva and what Cammas describes as “an incredible surprise that should make the Cannes Film Festival green with envy” will provide heightened sensory stimulation.
Cammas chose L.A. as Le Fooding’s latest destination when MOCA president Jeffrey Deitch, after catching wind of the culinary collective’s parties at MoMA, personally offered to host the gastronomic event at the Geffen Contemporary. Tickets for the event are sold out.

Under the tutelage of director Julien Frydman, Paris Photo has transformed into a French institution, drawing nearly 60,000 visitors to the famed Grand Palais each fall. But from April 26-28, the large-scale photography exhibition will cross the Atlantic to make its home among the soundstages of Paramount’s back lot.
A celebration of the photographic medium from the classical to the avant-garde, Paris Photo Los Angeles will feature offerings from an impressive 60 galleries and 12 publishers. Inspired by the sun-drenched city’s history, the L.A. edition of the event also boasts the debut of an unprecedented Sound and Vision program, whose itinerary includes film screenings and discussions with artists, industry professionals and even Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner.
Frydman chose L.A. as the latest backdrop of his traveling exposition after the unveiling of the Getty Foundation’s Pacific Standard Time initiative, an exploration of city’s post-World War II art through 1980. He looks forward to collaborating with “the unique creative environment of Los Angeles, where Hollywood and film inform contemporary art and culture.” Tickets for the event are $28 (for students, $20).
