Getty ImagesAfter a day of reports that Lady Gaga and Taylor Kinney have broken up, the singer took to Instagram late Tuesday night to explain that the pair have been “taking a break.”
“Taylor and I have always believed we are soulmates,” she began on her Instagram account. “Just like all couples we have ups and downs, and we have been taking a break. We are both ambitious artists, hoping to work through long-distance and complicated schedules to continue the simple love we have always shared. Please root us on. We’re just like everybody else and we really love each other.”
The couple, who became engaged last year, reportedly separated after five years together.
According to TMZ, who was first to report the news, they parted ways quietly earlier this month, but Gaga has been spotted sans engagement ring for a while now.
While the couple was no Kimye when it came to flaunting their relationship, they weren’t necessarily shy about sharing their romance, either. In January of this year, the couple posed nude together for one of 16 covers that Gaga guest-edited for V magazine.
The news of Gaga’s and Kinney’s breakup comes just one day after the heartbreaking split of fellow Hollywood power couple Diane Kruger and Joshua Jackson. Here’s hoping the theory that Hollywood breakups happen in threes isn’t true.
