Lady Gaga‘s wardrobe has reached new heights.
The singer debuted what she calls the world’s first flying dress on Sunday at the launch party for her forthcoming album, Artpop. The high-tech, battery-powered contraption — designed by Nancy Tilbury and controlled by a technician — lifted her up about 70 inches inside a huge building at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

According to the Associated Press, Gaga said that this was “maybe a small step for Volantis” — the name she’s given the contraption — but “a big-time step” for the singer. She added that it was intended to represent the future and its youth.
“I wanted to make today about something even more important to me, and that something is the youth of the world,” Gaga said. “Their minds are just so boundless. They’re just so inspiring.”
She added of the dress: “Although she is a vehicle, she is essentially a metaphor for me. I will be a vehicle today for their voices.”
Artpop will be released worldwide Monday.
