The Los Angeles Police Department’s bomb squad was called to the intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue, near Sunday’s Oscars venue, after a man claimed to have explosives in the trunk of his car, said police.
A spokeswoman for the LAPD confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that the man was pulled over near the Dolby Theatre for reckless driving and subsequently exited his vehicle while holding a propane tank.
After being taken into custody, police said the man made a comment about an explosive in his trunk, and the bomb squad was called in.
Officer Nuria Vanegas said that there was no apparent connection to Sunday’s upcoming Oscars.
A representative for the LAPD later said no explosives were found on the scene.
