Hollywood was heartbroken over the news of the tragic Las Vegas shooting on Sunday night, when a gunman unleashed a shower of bullets on an outdoor country music festival below, killing at least 58 people and more than 500 injured. Occurring while Jason Aldean was performing at the end of the three-day Route 91 Harvest Festival, it was the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history.
“Tonight has been beyond horrific,” Aldean wrote on Instagram afterward. “I still dont know what to say but wanted to let everyone know that Me and my Crew are safe. My Thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved tonight. It hurts my heart that this would happen to anyone who was just coming out to enjoy what should have been a fun night. #heartbroken #stopthehate.”
Many politicians took to Twitter, with former President Barack Obama calling the shooting a “senseless tragedy” and Hillary Clinton urging people to stand up to the NRA. “The crowd fled at the sound of gunshots. Imagine the deaths if the shooter had a silencer, which the NRA wants to make easier to get,” she wrote. “Our grief isn’t enough. We can and must put politics aside, stand up to the NRA, and work together to try to stop this from happening again.”
