The Director’s Guild’s recently-elected second VP, Jason “Jace” Alexander, has resigned his position, the guild announced Monday. The move comes in the wake of his arrest last week in suburban New York on child porn charges. Alexander, who was a director on Law & Order, faces seven years in state prison. He appears to remain a member of the guild, per the organization’s membership directory.
A DGA spokeswoman said the guild would elect a new second vice president at its October board meeting.
Alexander is not the only guild member to find himself in hot water recently on sex related charges. A month after second assistant director Kevin Thomas Roy pleaded no contest to secretly filming a woman nude or undressing — and over two weeks since the case came to public attention via an article on Jezebel — he too remains in the membership directory.
Will Roy be disciplined or expelled? A DGA spokeswoman would say only, “we are looking into this matter and have no further comment at this time.” She had no comment on the same question regarding Alexander.
The Roy and Alexander cases come in the wake of discomfort for another union, SAG-AFTRA, which took issue with the Hollywood teen sex abuse documentary An Open Secret for what the union saw as implications that SAG-AFTRA bore responsibility for alleged misconduct by a talent manager who had been a member of the union’s Young Performers Committee.
Roy declined to comment and it was not immediately possible to reach Alexander or his counsel.
