Leah Remini is using her 20/20 interview to expand on her defection of the Church of Scientology, which she says gives its children an unhealthy sense of superiority.
“Because Scientologists view children as spiritual beings, you’re not treated as a kid, so you’re given a lot of responsibility,” she explains in a new clip that aired on Thursday’s Good Morning America. “Your ego becomes extremely inflated.”
In the new clip, the King of Queens star also explains what the term “go on course” means, and she notes why she’s giving the interview and releasing her tell-all book, Troublemaker.
“The decision to leave is: You are giving up everything you have ever known and everything you have worked for your whole life,” she says of defecting. “I feel that people need to understand, this has been my whole life. I want them to understand how it happens.”
Remini’s 20/20 special airs Friday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m. on ABC. Watch the video below.
